Karachi Laughter Fest 2019

10th – 20th January 2019

The Karachi Laughter Fest 2019 brings together the various forms of comic performance in one hilarious festival. This year we present five plays directed by NAPA graduates along with a performance developed by Italian director Marco Luly. The recent explosive growth of stand-up comedy in Karachi is acknowledged in three performances as well as a delightful performance of some comic Dastangoi.

Haye Mohabbat

10th & 11th January

Kashi is over forty but still hopes that he will find the love of his life. He gives himself a last chance at romance by dialing a random number, and reaches neelofar, in her late thirties, who is desperately looking for her Prince Charming. She tries to convince him that they are made for each othr, as their romance takes hay wire twists and turns.

Dastan ki aik Shaam

Dastan ki aik Sham is a performance of comic short stories and essays by some of the greatest Urdu writers, performed by alumni of NAPA’s Dastangoi project, alongside NAPA graduates. It is a joint collaboration between Society for Music and Repertory Theatre (SMART) at NAPA.

Biwi Ho Tou Apni

Saleem is fifty years old, lives with his servant Shakoor, and has affair with the wives of his friends Farooq and Manzoor. He decides to marry fifteen-year-old Amina and embark on a happy married life. Unfortunately, things go wrong when Amina ‘s parents, Mr. Mrs. Abdul Qudoos decide to live with their daughter, and Saleem starts having a difficult time living with his own wife!

Aar Paar is a classic madcap farce with a plot whose only purpose is to pile on the misunderstandings, mistaken identities, and pratfalls, and with it the laughs. The action is swift, the situations are involved, and the pilot is rib-tickling, leaving audiences as exhausted from laughter as if they have just run a marathon.

Ghanchakkar is a farce of mistaken identities and small lies that balloon in to big confusions. A couple of friends, a job that is not what it seems, a wife and a beautiful model set uo the confusion that must be resolved to retain the job, save the marriage and achieve a happy ending.
